Description
Phhoung’s life has been scarred by poverty and fear.
When Phhoung’s parents had to go to the city to find work, her childhood came to an end. She became the sole carer of her brother and sister, forced to drop out of school to provide for them. She was just 13 years old.
“When I see my friends going to school, I feel very sad. I am not able to see them any more. We used to play together.”
Phhoung is forced to work 12 hour days collecting and selling cow dung. Living with her younger brother and sister in rural Cambodia, their parents far away in the city, they are constantly in danger of violence and exploitation.
“My little brother protects us with a machete.”
This is what life is like for too many children living in extreme poverty. Sadly, more than 1 billion children are exposed to violence each year and every 5 minutes a child dies of violence.
We believe every child deserves to say, “I am safe. I am educated. I am heard. I have a future.” With your help, together we can make this a reality.
Please make a tax-deductible gift today to help children like Phhoung and protect them against all forms of violence and exploitation.
