Description

Today, you can be a friend to a child who is excluded because of their disability. Help end the isolation that is limiting their opportunities.

Children living with disability remain invisible across Asia and the Pacific. Of the 150 million children living globally with a disability, the vast majority live in developing countries. These children are often hidden and unrecognised, absent from school and denied opportunities to participate and contribute within their communities.

There are huge obstacles facing these children, particularly in rural communities.

When parents have to work away from home, undertaking subsistence farming or micro-businesses to support their family, it is impossible to provide the necessary care for a child living with disability. There are no services and little support. Giving up work to provide care can be the difference between food on the table or chronic hunger. In such instances, children begin to become hidden and isolated, their development becomes delayed and they are denied the opportunity to be a part of their community

Your support can give parents another option by providing support, education and assistance that lifts their financial burdens, or helps a child gain independence.
